Desert Design Notes
- Sun: powder-coated finishes over galvanized or properly prepped steel hold up; bare fabrication paint chalks in a few summers. Dark colors get genuinely hot to touch — worth remembering where kids reach.
- Wind: privacy-slat and solid gates carry serious wind load; frames, hinges and operators must be sized for it, especially in the valley's wind corridors.
- Dust & grit: slide-gate tracks want smooth, maintained concrete runs; cantilever designs (no ground track) sidestep the problem where budgets allow.
- Heat: operator electronics and batteries live longer with ventilated, shaded mounting — a small placement decision with years of consequences.

Sliding or swing — how do we decide?
Three questions settle most driveways: Is there level run-space beside the opening (slide needs it, swing doesn't)? Does the driveway slope (swing gates fight slopes; sliders don't care)? What does a complete automation package include?
The operator sized to gate weight/length and daily cycles, safety devices (photo eyes; sensing edges where needed; exit and safety loops for vehicle detection), an access method (keypad, remotes, phone/app entry), manual release for outages, and power — hardwired or solar where trenching is impractical. Quotes spell out every piece so there are no surprise add-ons.
Do I need a permit or HOA approval for a gate?
Frequently one or both: HOAs almost always want design approval, and jurisdictions can require permits depending on scope, electrical work and setbacks. Requirements vary between Clark County, Henderson, Las Vegas and North Las Vegas — we flag what applies during quoting and supply drawings and specs for HOA packets.
Can you match my community's existing gates?
Usually — most community styles are standard fabrication patterns (vertical picket, decorative scroll, privacy-slat) that fabricators reproduce from photos and measurements. We coordinate fabrication and handle the mechanical, automation and access sides.
