Repair vs. Replace Guide
The full decision framework when panel damage crosses into door-replacement territory.
Learn more →One dented section doesn't have to mean a whole new door. If your model is still in production, we can often swap the damaged panel and match the finish.
In Las Vegas, panels take damage from a short list of culprits: bumper taps (the champion), basketballs and bikes, monsoon-season debris, and the sun itself — south- and west-facing doors fade, chalk and warp years before shaded ones. Steel panels dent; wood panels crack and dry out; and older sandwich panels can delaminate as the desert heat breaks down the adhesive.
| Damage | Typical Call |
|---|---|
| Small shallow dent, paint intact | Often left alone or paintless-repaired — purely cosmetic |
| Large dent / crushed section | Replace that section |
| Crease at hinge line or stile | Replace the section — structural stress point |
| Bottom section damage | Replace with care — it anchors cables and the seal |
| Two or more sections gone | Compare against full door replacement |
| Widespread rust / delamination | Replacement territory — the other panels are next |
Manufacturer, model, panel profile, color and section height — from the door's label or our measurements and photos.
We order the factory section (or verified compatible profile) in your color and insulation spec.
With the door secured and tension controlled, the damaged section comes out, hardware transfers over, and the new section goes in aligned to its neighbors.
A new section can change door weight slightly — we verify balance and opener force settings before leaving.
Insurance note
If a vehicle caused the damage, your auto or homeowner's policy may cover the repair. We provide itemized written quotes that work for claims documentation — just ask.
Usually yes, if two things are true: the door model (or a compatible profile) is still manufactured, and the structure behind the panel — struts, stiles, hinge points — is straight. We verify both before quoting. If the model is discontinued, we'll lay out the options honestly, including tracking down compatible sections or comparing against replacement.
Factory-finished panels in standard colors usually match well, though a panel that has baked in Las Vegas sun for 15 years will have faded — the new section may look slightly fresher. We'll tell you up front how close the match will be, and painting the full door is always an option for a perfect blend.
Depends where. A shallow dent mid-panel is cosmetic. A crease near a hinge line, a bent end stile, or damage on the bottom section (which anchors the lift cables) is structural — it concentrates stress every cycle and can eventually kink the door mid-travel. That's the difference we inspect for.
Our rule of thumb: when two or more sections need replacement, price the job against a new door before committing — sections, labor and finish-matching add up fast, and a new door resets springs, seals and warranty coverage too. See our repair vs. replace guide.
