The full walkthrough: how sizing, styles, springs and installation come together for your home.
Start here →The honest repair-vs-replace framework — and what replacement day actually looks like.
Repair or replace? →The valley's workhorse: durable, low-maintenance, endless styles — if you buy the right gauge.
Steel doors →Unmatched warmth and presence — with desert-specific care requirements to know first.
Wood doors →Full-view modern doors that turn the garage into architecture. Glazing choices matter here.
Glass doors →In a climate with 110° summers, insulation is comfort, quiet and utility savings in one panel.
Insulated doors →Odd sizes, carriage-house looks, designer finishes and one-of-a-kind facades.
Custom doors →Every material is a trade among durability, upkeep, insulation, looks and budget — and the Las Vegas climate moves the goalposts. Here's our honest matrix:
| Steel | Wood | Aluminum + Glass | Composite / Faux Wood | Insulated Sandwich | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Durability | Excellent; dents possible on light gauges | Good if maintained; sun is its enemy | Good; panels resist rust, glass is glass | Very good; stable in heat | Excellent; foam core stiffens the panel |
| Maintenance | Minimal — occasional wash | High — refinishing every few years in our sun | Low — wash panels and glass | Low — no refinishing | Minimal |
| Insulation potential | None to high (depends on construction) | Moderate natural insulation | Low unless insulated glazing | Moderate to high | Highest — it's the point |
| Appearance | Huge style/color range, wood-look embossing | The real thing — unmatched depth | Modern, architectural, dramatic | Convincing wood look, consistent | Same styles as steel |
| Desert suitability | Very good | Demanding — needs shade or devotion | Good; mind west-facing heat gain | Very good — made for climates like ours | Excellent |
| Typical use | Most Las Vegas homes | Custom & luxury facades | Modern builds, showpieces | Wood look without wood labor | Bedrooms over garage, workshops, hot exposures |
Want depth on any column? Each material has its own page: steel, wood, glass/aluminum, insulated, and custom (which covers composite and faux-wood options).
Traditional doors — raised panels, short or long rectangles, optional arched window toppers — remain the valley's most common look and blend with stucco-and-tile neighborhoods effortlessly. Carriage-house styles add crossbucks, strap hinges and handles for a swing-door look that suits Spanish and ranch architecture.
Modern doors go the other way: flush or clean-line panels, horizontal orientation, frosted or smoked glass bands, and finishes like matte charcoal or walnut woodgrain. On contemporary builds in Summerlin and Henderson, a full-view glass door is often the single most transformative curb-appeal upgrade available.
Style is also an HOA question in much of the valley — bring your community's guidelines to the consultation, or we'll help you interpret them.
Once the door arrives, a standard single- or double-door swap is typically completed in a day, including tear-out of the old door, new tracks and springs, opener reconnection, balancing and haul-away. Custom sizes and doors with extensive glass can take longer. Lead time for the door itself depends on manufacturer and options — we'll give you the current estimate when quoting.
Not automatically. If your opener is healthy and appropriately rated for the new door's weight, we reconnect and recalibrate it. If the new door is significantly heavier (insulated or custom doors often are) or the opener is elderly, we'll tell you — replacing both together saves a second labor charge, but it's your call. See our opener installation page.
No — and be wary of anyone who says yes. Tracks are matched to the door's thickness and hardware, and springs are matched to its exact weight. A proper installation replaces tracks and springs with components engineered for the new door.
Many Las Vegas-area HOAs (especially in Summerlin, Henderson and master-planned communities) require approval for door style and color changes. We're happy to provide spec sheets and drawings for your architectural review application — ask when we quote.
There's no single best — steel with insulation is the practical default; wood needs the most upkeep in our sun; glass doors are stunning but benefit from insulated glazing and smart orientation. The material comparison on this page covers durability, maintenance, insulation and cost logic for each.
